About Us Headteacher’s Update 19th March 2020

Information for all Parents and Carers

Thursday 19th March 2020

I wanted to update you on our plans for partial closure for tomorrow. In all my previous communications I have stressed that a primary focus is to ensure those students who are due to be sitting examinations in the summer are supported fully in these unprecedented times.

Yesterday’s announcements have had huge ramifications on Year 11 and 13 and we want to do all that we can to maximise their chances as we wait for some clarity from the DfE and Ofqual. We have brought forward key assessments for these students and want to prioritise teacher contact time with them before school closes on Friday.

We have also encountered further staff absence today through illness and self-isolation.

As a result, I have taken the decision to make further changes to our closure plan for Friday.

Students in Year 7, 11, 12 and 13 are the only students expected in school on Friday 20th March.

Year 8, 9 and 10 will be completing study at home. Staff will be setting work for those lessons missed on Friday.

This has been a difficult decision, but I hope you can appreciate that I have remained steadfast in my core principle of prioritising those students who need to maximise the opportunities that this situation has left us with.

I will write to you shortly to confirm arrangements for the setting of work and ongoing communication.

Once again thank you for your continued support and understanding. We are a strong school community and although this is a difficult time, staff, students and parents have all shown how resilient they are and we will continue to support each other in remaining safe, healthy whilst we continue learning away from school.
