Summer 2021 Exams07/01/2021

The Government announced yesterday that most examinations will be cancelled this summer, with results instead being formulated by teacher assessments. We are currently awaiting further guidance as to what the logistics of this will be and I will of course update you as soon as I possibly can with further details of this, as they emerge.

In the meantime, we have made the decision to delay the Parents’ Evening on 20th January, in order that we can more appropriately advise students on how best to focus their studies over the forthcoming weeks and to provide more effective feedback on the work completed during the current home learning period. We also hope at that point to be able to provide more clarity about the exams and teacher assessments in each subject area.

We will also advise you, as soon as we can, when we will be holding this year’s progression evening. This will be a great opportunity to meet with a senior member of staff who will be providing guidance and support with preparation for the next steps. This meeting will specifically focus on post 16 options, applications to our sixth form and other institutions. This meeting very much feeds into the school’s aim of Prepare, Aspire, Succeed.

We understand that these are difficult times for everyone, not least the students themselves. The key message is that students must continue to engage fully in order that they will be in the best position to succeed, no matter what the arrangements turn out to be. It is essential that we focus on the knowledge and skills needed to equip the students to progress to the next stage, whether that be college, apprenticeships, university or employment.

If you do have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me at the school, and once again, can I thank you for your support during these difficult times.

Yours sincerely
Mr R Peel
Assistant Headteacher – Attainment & Progress
