What is a CV?

A CV, or Curriculum Vitae, is a document that highlights your skills, experiences, and achievements. Even if you're still in secondary school, it's a great way to showcase your potential to future employers or universities.

Writing a CV

Here's some advice to help you create a strong CV:

1. Keep it Simple and Concise

  • One page is generally enough. Focus on the most relevant information.
  • Use clear and concise language. Avoid jargon or overly complex sentences.

2. Start with a Strong Header

  • Include your full name.
  • List your contact information: address, phone number, email address.
  • Add a professional-looking headshot.

3. Create a Personal Profile

  • Briefly summarise your skills, interests, and goals.
  • Highlight your key qualities, such as teamwork, problem-solving, or creativity.

4. List Your Education

  • Start with your current school.
  • Include the name of the school, your expected graduation date, and any relevant qualifications or subjects.
  • If you've taken any external exams for example: GCSEs, list your results.

5. Highlight Your Work Experience

  • Including any part-time jobs, volunteering, or internships.
  • List the company name, your position, and key responsibilities.
  • Focus on the skills you developed and the achievements you made.

6. Showcase Your Skills

  • List your technical skills, for example: computer software, languages.
  • Including your soft skills, for example: communication, teamwork, leadership.
  • Use bullet points to make your skills easy to read.

7. Add Your Interests and Activities

  • Highlight any hobbies, clubs, or extracurricular activities.
  • Explain how these activities have helped you develop valuable skills.

8. Proofread Carefully

  • Check for spelling and grammar errors.
  • Ensure your Save CV is well-formatted and easy to read.
  • Ask a teacher or parent to review it for feedback.

Remember, your CV is a marketing tool!

It should give potential employers or universities a positive impression of you. By following these tips, you can create a CV that effectively showcases your skills and potential.
