Week 1 |Week 2

14th October 2024

Last week Year 11 began their first set of mock exams. They have been exemplary when going into the exam rooms. This week sees the second week of exams whilst their teachers have already begun marking papers completed last week.

Assembly Theme

Restart a Heart: Mrs Moore is taking this week's assemblies, helping all students understand more about the importance of learning CPR to support someone when they need help most. Every year 30,000 cardiac arrests happen outside of hospitals. Knowing what to do in an emergency and performing early CPR can have a big impact on a person’s chances of survival. Restart a Heart Day is run by lots of different organisations across the UK and aims to promote awareness of CPR.  Last year, the school trained 180 students in CPR. This year we hope to increase that number; students from every tutor group will participate in the training today.

For families interested in learning more about CPR, St John’s Ambulance is offering some face to face and online training events this week. Sport Fixtures and Results

Congratulations to Miss Keveren for running the Royal Parks Half marathon yesterday with her mum!

There were a lot of fixtures that took place this week, some in some challenging weather.  On Tuesday, Year 7 netball participated in a seeding tournament to ensure they are able to play competitive matches with other local teams. On Wednesday, the U18s football team lost 3-0 to Aylesbury Grammar School, however the Year 7 football team beat The Misbourne 8-3! A fabulous result for our youngest footballers. Year 10 netballers won convincingly against The Mandeville School, 11-1. Finally, on Friday, the Year 10 footballers played an English Schools Football Association Boys Under 15 Playstation Schools’ Cup match against Samuel Whitbread School from Bedfordshire. The team beat the team from Bedfordshire convincingly 4-3 and have now progressed to the second round to play John Hampden Grammar School.

The PE department would like to recognise the following sports people for their success this week - the Year 7 netball team endured awful weather throughout their netball tournament and are  strengthening their team skills.

Bella in 10E has been identified by Miss Keveren as being dynamic on the court, fighting for every ball, and showing great determination throughout the match against The Mandeville School. Bella was also part of the football team that played on Friday; her skills in midfield were particularly valuable and made a significant contribution to the successful outcome.

Orlando in 7E has been praised for an outstanding performance in the Year 7 football match, scoring five of the eight goals and displaying a great attitude throughout the game.

Afro Celt Sound System Concert

Tomorrow evening, GCSE Music students will be attending an Afro Celt Sound System concert in Milton Keynes, with Mrs Pinto. Afro Celt Sound System is a European and African group who fuse electronic music with traditional Gaelic and West African music, and are a named group on the GCSE Music specification. It’s rare for the group to perform so close to home - we hope the students have an amazing experience that will support their learning in Music.
