The Halo Code
A Welcoming Space: The Cottesloe School and The Halo Code
At The Cottesloe School, we are delighted to announce our adoption of The Halo Code, the UK's first national Black hair code. This commitment underscores our belief that every Black staff member and student should feel completely comfortable and empowered to wear their natural or protective hairstyles without compromise.
We see the adoption of The Halo Code as an important step forward in our ongoing journey towards a truly inclusive world, where the rich and diverse identities of all our Black community members are fully recognised and celebrated.
Our Pledge
The Cottesloe School is a place where all Afro-hairstyles are not only accepted but celebrated. We recognise the profound connection between Afro-textured hair and the racial, ethnic, cultural, and religious heritage of our Black staff and students. We also understand the care and specific styling required for healthy Afro-textured hair.
We warmly embrace the wearing of Afro-textured hair in all its beautiful styles, including afros, locs, twists, braids, cornrows, fades, hair that has been chemically or heat-straightened, weaves, wigs, headscarves, and wraps.
Here at The Cottesloe School, we value and celebrate the unique identities of each and every member of our community. We are proud to foster an environment built on equality and respect, where hair texture and style are never a factor in one's ability to thrive.
