Behaviour for Learning
Behaviour for Learning
At The Cottesloe School, we view positive behaviour not merely as compliance, but as the essential ingredient for maximising learning and enabling every student to fulfil their potential.
Our school is founded on creating and sustaining Healthy Relationships. We believe that success in life comes from investing in positive relationships that support our aspirations. Therefore, treating others with respect, equality, and honesty is non-negotiable.
To ensure a productive, safe, and respectful environment where learning is free from disruption, we require a shared commitment from every member of our community.
Our Shared Partnership
Consistent positive behaviour is a shared partnership. When students, staff, and parents work together with clear expectations, we create a culture of mutual respect.
Expectations for Students
We have high expectations of our students to ensure they are Ready to LEARN. We empower our young people to be responsible citizens who:
- Work without Disruption: Take every opportunity to learn and never cause disruption to the learning of others.
- Be Respectful: Treat all students and adults with respect at all times. This includes being an "upstander"—never engaging in bullying and supporting those who need it.
- Be Ready: Know and comply with our L.E.A.R.N. and 3S expectations.
- Be Responsible: Adhere to the school’s uniform, mobile phone, and Behaviour Policy , and use Chromebooks responsibly to aid learning.
Expectations for Staff
Our staff are committed to promoting an ethos that is respectful, calm, orderly, and inclusive. You can expect our team to:
- Model and Teach: Actively model positive behaviours, greet students, and establish clear, consistent routines.
- Intervene Consistently: Deal effectively, fairly, and consistently with poor behaviour, applying sanctions and restorative approaches reasonably.
- Nurture Confidence: Build self-confidence through praise, encouragement, and the celebration of achievement.
- Ensure Safety: Maintain robust systems to ensure safeguarding is exemplary.
Expectations for Parents & Carers
We ask families to partner with the school to build a strong foundation for success. We ask that you:
- Support High Standards: Reinforce the school's high academic, behavioural, and social expectations at home to ensure consistency.
- Communicate Openly: Maintain honest communication with staff, addressing concerns promptly and celebrating successes together.
- Model Respect: Support the school by communicating respectfully with all staff, helping to uphold the mutual respect fundamental to our ethos.
Our Approach: Consistency & Restoration
We operate a system based on clear routines and restorative practice. We believe that clarity leads to safety. By ensuring that staff intervene consistently and fairly, we protect the learning environment for every child.

Home-School Agreement
What is the Home-School Agreement?
A strong partnership between home and school is essential for a student's academic and personal success. While specific rules and policies outline expectations, the heart of this relationship lies in collaboration, mutual respect, and ambition. The Cottesloe School is committed to fostering a positive and supportive learning environment. We believe that by working together, we can create a space where students can thrive. This agreement outlines our shared commitment to:
- Valuing Hard Work and Achievement: We will encourage students to strive for excellence in all their endeavours.
- Promoting Participation and Commitment: We will empower students to actively engage in their learning and take ownership of their education.
- Building Strong Relationships: We will maintain open and honest communication with parents and carers, addressing concerns promptly and celebrating successes together.
The greatest success comes from a partnership where everybody involved in the partnership contributes and where all learn. This agreement aims to strengthen our partnership and empower all students to succeed.
