Important PE information for the New Academic Year

With the summer holidays nearly upon us, I wanted to take this opportunity to provide you with some important information to help you prepare your child for Physical Education (PE) in the upcoming academic year.
3G Footwear
As I am sure you are aware, we currently have an amazing 3G pitch being built on the school grounds. We are very excited about this new facility and anticipate it will be ready for all students to use at some point in October.
Due to the nature of the carpet on the pitch, there are very strict regulations regarding the footwear that can be worn on this surface. These regulations vary depending on the manufacturer of the carpet, and we must adhere to them rigorously to ensure the safety of our students, protect the integrity of the carpet, and meet our warranty agreements.
To clarify, students can wear the following types of footwear on the new 3G pitch:
- Firm/Multi-ground boots with studs
- Boots with plastic studs
- Boots with plastic blades
We understand that many students may already own these types of boots. Please ensure that any footwear worn on the Astro pitch is completely mud-free.
The following types of footwear are not permitted on the new 3G pitch:
- Astro turf rubber bobbled trainers
- Normal trainers
We appreciate that this can be an expensive time, and we are here to support you, which is why we are sharing this information now when some parents/carers may be buying new boots for the upcoming season. We will have a small boot bank available to lend out, and there may also be opportunities for students to share boots with others who have PE at different times. If you do have any boots that meet the criteria that you no longer need, all donations for the boot bank would be greatly appreciated.
Please refer to the image 3G Regulation Footwear which shows the permitted and non-permitted footwear types. We strongly advise you to review these diagrams to ensure your child has the correct footwear before the new academic year begins.
Ear piercings
If you are thinking of getting your child's ears pierced over the summer, please can we ask that you do so at the very start of the holidays. This will give them the full six weeks to heal in time for them to be able to safely remove them for PE lessons. Unfortunately, our health and safety policy does not allow for tape to cover piercings during PE, so they will need to be taken out.
Thank you for your cooperation in helping us maintain a safe and high-quality PE environment for all our students.
Wishing you and your family a wonderful summer.
Yours sincerely
Miss S Felton
