The Year 7 White Rose Maths (Version 3) scheme of learning is designed to help students transition smoothly from Key Stage 2 to Key Stage 3. Built on a mastery approach, the curriculum ensures depth before breadth, using "small steps" to develop mathematical fluency, logical reasoning, and problem-solving skills.
It is structured to align with learning across other subjects, specifically science, introducing algebraic thinking, numerical fluency, data handling, and geometry at optimal stages throughout the academic year.
Key Pedagogical Features:
- Mastery Approach: Students focus on fully understanding mathematical concepts rather than memorising procedures.
- Concrete–Pictorial–Abstract (CPA): Visual representations, bar models, and physical resources are used to bridge intuitive understanding with abstract mathematical notation.
- Cross-Curricular Synergy: Concepts like statistics, percentages, and unit conversions are sequenced to prepare students directly for application in Key Stage 3 Science.
